Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE) is looking for someone energetic and outgoing with strong people skills, the ability to organize, and care for details. Experience is appreciated but more importantly, we are looking for someone who can learn on the job, figure things out and originate on how to improve and expand things.

Position Summary

The Outreach and Volunteer Services Coordinator is responsible for two functions. First and foremost are outreach activities in the communities we serve as part of education and encouragement campaigns for safer streets. This outreach includes coordinating events both virtually and in person. Second is managing our existing volunteers and helping to expand our volunteer base for special projects as well as our ambassador and chapters program.

This is an entry-level position that does not require formal supervisory experience but is best suited for those with some experience conducting outreach, especially outreach as it relates to recruitment and management of volunteers, organizational partners, and stakeholders interested in social and political change. SAFE is a fast-paced, dynamic, and rapidly growing organization and the ideal candidate will share these qualities.

Role and Responsibilities-

  • Contact and engage with stakeholders in the community.
  • Work with SAFE staff to develop and launch new outreach strategies.
  • Develop strong community relationships which foster a positive image.
  • Represent the organization in public meetings, community events, and community presentations
  • Develop training and outreach materials
  • Work with and manage volunteers as part of SAFE programs and events.
  • Develop volunteer recruitment and communication plans.
  • Work with corporate partners and civic organizations to provide volunteer opportunities for their employees and community.
  • Implement training activities for volunteers to conduct activities at special events
  • Develop and implement recruitment processes to enlist and retain volunteers from corporate and civic organizations
  • Work with SAFE staff to ensure that all special events are managed in a timely manner.
  • Establish, maintain, and update database technology tools to manage Volunteer Service functions

Required Education and Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or AA degree (willing to hire college students in last year of college).
  • Experience in a non-profit organization.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to manage other people. (This need not be formal work experience. Experience leading groups, clubs, non-profits, sports teams, or other leadership roles are valuable – please mention them.)
  • General knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office and Google Productivity Suites.
  • Internet, social media, and research skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Able to work weekends when pre-coordinated for events and activities.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid CA driver’s license, proof of auto liability insurance, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Able to speak Spanish fluently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and interest in cycling and running are strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing events or running volunteers at events is preferred but not required.
  • Political organizing experience is preferred but not required.
  • Education, experience, or interest in creating safe streets for all road users - applicants with a personal history of surviving or supporting a survivor of a traffic collision will be given special consideration.

Physical Requirements

  • 75% Working on the computer remotely to the office and calling up potential clients and volunteers
  • 25% Travel is required to community events and activity sites
  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs
  • Ability to drive to locations as needed

Salary and Compensation

$17-$19 per hour, depending on qualifications, with extensive opportunities for professional development and the opportunity for rapid promotion to a management title and increased pay after 1-year of satisfactory service.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
