An opportunity has presented itself to appoint a suitably qualified candidate for the position of Laboratory Assistant - Peripheral.
Key Responsibilities
- Laboratory and Workflow Management.
- Receive and Distribute specimens within TATs and according to SOPs.
- Spinning and preparation of samples prior to processing.
- Receive and Record stock.
- Ensure that equipment is maintained and calibrated in line with defined processes and procedures.
- Run internal and external QC samples as per appropriate SOPs.
- Maintain safe and housekeeping standards in accordance with OHS Act.
- Reporting of technical problems to technologist / technician, undertaking troubleshooting steps from technologist / technician.
- Provide functional support in the department.
- Quality Management.
- Ensure the correct application for quality assurance processes in standard operating procedures.
- Follow standard operating procedures in order to ensure that the laboratory is constantly able to provide a high quality, cost effective and safe service
- Drive the participation and promotion of Continuing Professional Development activities within the Department / Laboratory to contribute to staff development and in compliance with HPCSA requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Lab Assistant Qualification
- Registration with the HPCSA as Lab Assistant
- BSC Graduate
Experience
- + Min 3 years’ experience
Required skills
- Strong analytical and documentation skills.
- Broad knowledge of basic laboratory techniques.
- Previous experience in a laboratory or medical setting.
- Comfortable using medical technologies and lab equipment.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to properly clean and maintain equipment.
- Willingness to work in a team.
- Communication skills (Verbal, writer presentation). Computer Literacy.
- Time Management and Evaluation skills.
